COMPASS Q Score Series 2026: The 2026 Default Study

TORONTO — October 5, 2026 — COMPASS by Bespoke Metrics, a leading construction prequalification and risk management platform, today announced the release of the 2026 COMPASS Q Score Default Study, analyzing historical movements of COMPASS Q Scores and default (bankruptcy) rates for the 150,000+ subcontractors registered on the COMPASS prequalification platform.

This annual study evaluates how subcontractor Q Scores change over time, providing transparency into the historical performance of the Q Score and supporting its ongoing validation as subcontractor data changes.

The COMPASS Q Score is the Construction Credit Score that provides a standardized, independent assessment of a subcontractor. Based on a subcontractor’s operational expertise, financial capacity, and health & safety track record, the Q Score provides General Contractors with a consistent starting point for prequalification and a benchmark that can be used alongside other information when assessing a subcontractor.

The 2026 COMPASS Q Score Default Study found that subcontractors with a Yellow Q Score were 3x more likely to file for bankruptcy than those with a Green Q Score, aligning with the increased due diligence requirements for Yellow subcontractors.

Additionally, over the past year, approximately 15% of subcontractors with a Green Q Score migrated to a Yellow Q Score, reinforcing the importance of annual prequalification. Together, these findings provide strong quantitative support for the use of the Q Score.

“The COMPASS default study gives general contractors and insurers a transparent view of how COMPASS Q Scores relate to subcontractor defaults. This is an important step in giving the construction industry a strong basis for assessing subcontractors.”
