American Subcontractors Association and COMPASS Advance Standard for Prequalification

Six-year collaboration continues with new ASA guidance calling for secure, transparent and efficient prequalification.

TORONTO — September 24, 2026 — COMPASS by Bespoke Metrics, a leading construction prequalification and risk management platform, and the American Subcontractors Association (ASA) are building on a six-year collaboration to advance a more standard, secure and transparent approach to subcontractor prequalification.

This year, the organizations collaborated on three new ASA resources: its Position Statement on Prequalification, Policy Brief for General Contractors and Subcontractor Prequalification Checklist. The guidance supports robust prequalification while calling for a more standardized approach that maintains rigorous risk screening while reducing duplication, administrative burden and exposure of sensitive subcontractor data.

“ASA believes robust prequalification is important to a strong construction industry, but the process has to work for both sides. A more standardized approach can give General Contractors the information they need while allowing subcontractors to provide their information efficiently, protect sensitive data and benefit from the work they’ve already done rather than repeatedly starting over.”

Richard Bright — Chief Executive Officer, American Subcontractors Association

These principles align closely with the model COMPASS and ASA have worked together to advance since 2020. Across COMPASS’s network of 400+ General Contractors and 150,000+ subcontractors, subcontractors maintain one standard prequalification that can be securely shared across multiple contractor relationships, reducing repetitive submissions while providing General Contractors with a consistent, timely, and comprehensive dataset to effectively manage supply chain risk.

“The industry doesn’t need less prequalification. It needs a trusted standard that allows subcontractors to qualify once, protect their information and leverage that work across the contractors and opportunities they want to pursue.”

Michael Ho — Chief Executive Officer, Bespoke Metrics

ASA’s guidance also calls for transparency when qualification scores or benchmarks are used, including clear explanations of the factors evaluated and the ability for subcontractors to correct underlying information. COMPASS applies these principles through the Q Score, the Construction Credit Score, and will publish its full Q Score Methodology on September 29.
